Overview

Alleppey is called Alappuzha lies on the edge of the great Ashtamudi Lake. Alleppey is a town  situated south of Kochi. It is also known as the Venice of the east due to many waterways that inter connects different parts of this town.  Alleppey is an important tourist attraction in Kerala and there are Kerala Tour Packages to Alleppey. After reaching Alleppey it is possible to see the backwaters of Kerala, which are one of the most important tourist attractions here. On the western side of Alleppey is the Arabian sea and on the eastern side is the backwaters. Alleppey Beach

This beach is situated very close to Alleppey railway station and on the western part of Alleppey town.  Tourists who come to see the backwaters also spend some time at the beach. It is an ideal place for spending the evening and for watching sunset.

It is also known as the rice bowl of Kerala because of the extensive paddy fields in the area. Most of the area is below sea level.  Travelling in a houseboat it is possible to see these paddy fields with coconut trees in the boundary.  The paddy fields combined with coconut trees add to the scenic beauty of this place.
