Kochi

Overview

Kochi also known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, was an important spice trading centre on the west coast of India from the 14th century onward, and maintained a trade network with Arab merchants from the pre-Islamic era. Kochi is the largest city in Kerala. Most of the tourists coming from abroad first come to this city. There are many tourist attractions in and around Kochi. This coastal city also has many tourist places of historical importance.  Some of the Kerala Tour Packages take tourists different parts of the city. St.Francis Church

This is the oldest European church in India. It was built in the early 16th century.  This was initially built by the Portuguese. This was the place where Vasco da Gama was first buried. Later his remains were taken to Portugal.  Tourists who are interested in historical places come here. This church is situated in Fort Kochi.

Jewish Syngogue

Jewish Synagogue : This is located in Mattanchery in Kochi. This synagogue was built in the latter half of 16th century on land given by the rulers of Kochi to Jewish traders. The surrounding area known as Jew town is a place for shopping for many antique items.  The synagogue remains open to visitors on all week days except Fridays and Saturdays and other holidays.

Fort Kochi Beach

This Beach is located in Fort Kochi. The best time to visit the beach is during the evening where we can see the sunset. Sitting in the beach it is also possible to see many ships moving to and from Kochi port.  Maximum number of tourists visits this place during the new-year celebrations. During this period Cochin Carnival is held here every year attracting big crowds.

Tripunithura Hill Palace

Tripunithura Hill Palace is a place of historic importance. It is from this palace that Kochi Rajas carried out their administration. This Hill Palace is an ideal place for history lovers The palace has been converted into a museum displaying a fine collection of articles showing the wealth and splendour of the Rajas of Kochi, including the thone and the crown. The musuem also houses a large collection of archaeological findings. Hill Palace is located 16km east of Cochin in Tripunithura, a satellite town of Cochin.

This lovely beach ideal for swimming is located on the north end of Vypin island, one of the many small islands just off the mainland. The beach is lined by gorgeous coconut groves and paddy fields. Vypeen can be reached by land or by boat.
